Early Damage Hides True Pace

Josh and the Sorg Rennsport team maximised opportunities in what was a challenging race for the 969 car.

Compared to the last event, where red flags put an early stop to testing, this Friday was highly productive, with very few interuptions and each of the drivers completing several laps around the Nordschleife before the chequered flag waved at 6pm. But the action continued into the evening, as Josh and his fellow Talent Pool drivers were invited to an exciting kart slalom event with PETN partners ROTAX RMC Germany.
"It was super cool to have my first ever shot in a proper race kart and, although it wasn't the fastest way to drive it, I sure had fun throwing the thing sideways!" - Josh Hislop

After a positive test on Friday, Josh and the team were determined to add to the 2025 win tally, and the pace in qualifying suggested it was possible. On his opening qualifying lap, Josh was on target to set a time that would comfortably see him into the top five on the grid, but two Code 60 zones later in the lap cost him dearly and he would ultimately have to settle for 13th on the grid.
As at the previous race, Jan-Niklas took the start and worked his way forward over the opening laps. Early in the stint though, he was forced onto the aggressive sausage kerb at the Veedol Chicane, knocking the rear left toe out of allignment and leading to a number of handling issues which progressively worsened over the race. Jan-Niklas, Tommy and Josh all did the best they could in the circumstances, setting reasonably competitive lap times, but lacking that last bit of pace to fight further up the field. Despite their struggles, the team were still able to secure P7 overall and another podium finish in the AM class thanks to a good strategy and rapid pit stops from the team at Sorg Rennsport.

"It feels like one of those day where the result doesn't reflect the performance we put in as a team. The pace was there, we had great strategy and pit stops, but we couldn't really show it because of the damage. There's still a lot of positives to take away from the weekend though and that's what we'll focus on heading into the next race." - Josh Hislop
